REVIEW

Reading this book has been very easy and fast. But the context causes conflicting emotions, at least in me. There is a romance in this story, and it is not easy. Also the starting of the relationship takes a while from the beginning but I enjoyed the read even before the romance side. The characters..oh the characters! Why don´t they just wisen up! They irritate me and they make me smile. The story in this book is not an easy one, it is a deep one from multiple angels. I have the last pages to read to finish it so I do not know yet if it has a happily ever after ending or not, but for the characters sake I do hope so!

This book has aroused a lot of different feelings and has made me root for the characters to cope with all the things going on. Not every book does any of this. Even if it is not the easiest book to read considering the grim things in the story, it was otherwise very much that. I love when reading doesn´t require me to gather up enough concentration to be able to read and understand what I´m reading. The story in it self did that for me. The relationships in this story are hard, which is not in many books I read. It did give the story credibility. All in all it has been a

4 star read!

EXCERPT

My head snapped up and my cheeks burned. “Wha…?!” Picture of eloquence, that’s me.
“Saturday. A date. You, me, dinner? Yah’ve heard of this concept, yeah?”
“Yes, the concept is somewhat foreign to me, but I’ve heard of it,” I answered. Still fearing this was some kind of joke, I couldn’t help but ask, “Why? Why are you asking me out?”
His expression was equal parts amusement and confusion. “Because if I don’t ask ya the chance of ya actually showin’ up on the date is highly unlikely, isn’t it?”
An abrupt—and incredibly loud—laugh erupted out of me. “True. But why? Why would you ask out the freaky purring girl?”
“Yar laugh is amazin’.” He grinned. Another wave of heat rushed through me. “And because from the moment I laid eyes on ya I knew there was somethin’ different about ya. The purrin’ just supported the theory. So, would ya like to go out with me?”
“Yes, I’d like to. Go on a date. With you. Please.” Smooth, huh?
On her way to another table, Sophia passed behind me.  “Give him your number.”
“My what? Oh! My number! I have a number!” I scribbled it on my order pad and tore off the page to hand to him.
His chin jerked up slightly. “Who do I ask for when I call?”
I agreed to go on a date with a guy before I even knew his name, or told him mine. Please, don’t tell my mother.
“Celeste.” I chewed on my lower lip and I brushed a loose strand of hair behind my ear.
He caught my raised hand and drew it gently to him. His emerald eyes stayed locked on mine, as he bowed his head to brush his lips across the back of my hand. Tingles of excitement tracked up my arm and down my spine. I clamped my teeth together to stifle the purr that threatened to escape.

“It’s nice to formally meet ya, Celeste. The name’s Caleb.”

About Stacey Rourke:

Writing is something I have always done.  I can remember in elementary school creating stories that I would stand up and read aloud to my classmates…whether they liked it or not.   As I grew older I didn’t flaunt my writing as freely.  It became something I did just for me  to vent my teenage angst, or chronicle my journey to adulthood.  I never thought about becoming a writer because that title prompted the visual of a grey-haired man in a tweed smoking jacket with suede elbow patches, slaving over an old fashion typewriter while puffing away on a pipe.  No way was that stuffy kind of life for me.  (Plus tweed is itchy.)  Instead I wanted to be in the spotlight!  I wanted to be–pause for dramatic effect–an actress!  I gave it my best shot, too.  Got about as far as any aspiring actress can get in Flint, Michigan.  Which is exactly no where.  But I did get two great things out of my time delving into the theatrical world; I gained the ability to act out the scenes I write to make sure they’re believable (yes, I really do that and no, you can’t watch) and I met my amazing husband.

My theater ambitions behind me, I decided to do the “mature,” “grown up” thing and went back to college.  As I worked toward my Bachelor’s degree in marketing I did a lot of writing.   Essays, research papers, PowerPoint presentations.  All of it mandatory, none of it what I would ever call fun.  Even then, becoming a writer never entered my mind.  No, then I was going to be a business tycoon…or somethin’.

Truth be told, I never picked writing.  It picked me.  During my time as a stay at home mom I needed an outlet to give me a mental break from diapers, formula and midnight feedings.  That’s when my hands found their way back to the keyboard.  Story ideas began coming at such an incessant rate that my rapidly clicking fingers couldn’t keep up.  Post-It notes and scrapes of paper with story ideas decorated every inch of our house.  In mid-conversation with my husband I would dart off to jot down things that would come to me.  Sweet guy my hubby is, he would just shake his head at my obvious rudeness and hold my place in the conversation.

My first book was completed for an entire year before I told anyone about it.  I outed myself as an author and then sent out my first round of query letters to literary agents.  Surely, it would be picked up immediately and become an overnight success!  Yeah, not so much.  For two years I got rejection, after rejection, after rejection, after rejection…you get the idea.  Thankfully with the ever increasing pile of rejections came feedback.  I digested all the suggestions and applied the usable ones to my manuscript.  Little by little, the rough edges were chipped away and the diamond shone through.  The work paid off when I received an email from a publisher offering me a contract on The Conduit.

It’s been a long road, and it ain’t over yet.  But now, at thirty-mumble, mumble years old I finally know what I wanna be when I grow up–-a writer.

VAEMPIRES TOUR - 3 Reviews

REVIEWS!!

                                                #1 Evolutionary Wars: 4 stars
In Vaempires Revolution the story begins. In this after almost an apocalypse the world has changed a lot. It is not just the humans anymore. Vampires have revealed themselves and ended up with almost an evenhanded status with the humans. But it is not just the humans and vampires anymore either. Vaempires, beings like vampires, only more powerful have appeared, craving for vampire blood.. so how will everyone get on with the others?

I got very excited from the very beginning of this book. I thought:  If you want to read a story about vampires that is not a ya paranormal romance story, I´d say this is what you should be reading! Definitely this is what a story like that should be like!" In the end I was feeling a lack of something of the story and hoped for a little more faster proceeding. But..

#0,5 Evolutionary Wars: 4,5 stars

...then I got to this prequel novella!! Which I loved! It gave me exactly what I had missed from the first book of the series. This prequel gives an insight to the relationship of some of the characters of the story in the series. After reading this I am once more very expectant and will start reading the second book of the series with vigor.

#2 Evolutionary Wars:

This book begins with a recap of what has happened in the story so far. Which immediately got me up to date, shortly but efficiently.

On this book the reader gets to follow two friends, friends of Cassie and Daniel and how they fit to the story. This series has been touching, daunting, exciting, sad.. I have felt a lot of different things while reading it. And I like it, it shows the different sides to the characters and the story, instead of just the one. It could´ve easily been written so that it would emphasize just the daunting side of the story and the world. And it would still make an excellent story. But all the other things makes it a complete tale of people and the world. And it is quite thrilling!!

I have not finished reading this one yet, but I have a feeling it will be my favourite!

Atticus Finch has two kids, a boy and a girl, Jem and Scout. Atticus is a lawyer, who ends up defending a black man accused of a rape of a white woman. The book follows how their family deal with what the upcoming trial makes them face in the neighbours and the town folk. At the same time Jem and Scout with their friend are trying to find out something about their mysterious neighbour they never see..

I especially enjoyed the part at the trial, with a bit more that and I would´ve really loved this book. But still, I liked the book. The author has succeeded in making funny and strange things feel sad and funny. Like the bit with the tree.

It would be very interesting to learn more about Boo Radley!

In the beginning it took quite long for me to really get interested and excited. But nevertheless, a good and interesting read!

Finding Magic by Christie Rich

I remember discovering magic when I was a child.  From an early age I was obsessed with fairies and princesses, unicorns, and dragons…anything that transported me to another place, another time, another dimension.  Growing up, I loved to play outside, to imagine myself as anything and everything fantasy related, and back then my imagination was boundless.
During summer vacations when I was a little girl, my favorite cousin and I would play Indian Princesses in the desert hills behind her small home in Central Heights, Arizona.  I took pride in the Native American ancestry that we shared, imagining being swept off my feet by a tall, dark, and handsome stranger that would whisk me away to his castle where we would live happily ever after.  Sometimes he was a rogue cowboy and other times he was from a rival tribe.  It didn’t really matter because the hero always got the girl (me, grins) and the couple would live happily ever after.  It also didn’t matter that cowboys historically didn’t have castles, or for that matter, did tribal chieftains.  What mattered was the experience of being carried away into a riveting story.
Stories are amazing.  They can transport us to another time, another place.  I remember reading a few stories as a child.  Some were so captivating, I couldn’t put them down like the Boxcar Children Mysteries.  I loved imagining where they lived.  Some of the images still are with me today.  There was Narnia, and Nancy Drew.  I loved mysteries back then, it seems.
As I grew up, magic faded further and further into the distance.  My new reality of being an adult set in and pretty soon I found I didn’t have time for books.  I was too busy with school and work and being a mother.  I was too busy for books…until I discovered my love for reading again.  I didn’t realize it, but creativity was what fueled my soul back on those Arizona hills.  It was what made the mundane bearable when I found myself stuck doing chores or other things that I didn’t enjoy as much as sprinting across an open field to see what was in a copse of trees, secretly wishing I’d uncover an entrance to a magical fairy-land in the gnarled branches of an ancient oak.
Inspiration started for me in the Southwestern desert, but I have come to realize that it is everywhere.  It’s listening to the chatter of a small child who thinks she’s alone, watching a couple stroll down the street, hand in hand, especially if they are older, or witnessing a soft summer breeze set an aspen to shimmering in the sun’s rays.  It is in every particle of light that illuminates a perfect, blazing sunset.  Even though inspiration is everywhere, it can often be hard to find, especially if we are struggling to just get by every day.
For me, more than any other form of entertainment, books have the ability to move me.  Where else could I hope to become an elf setting off on a great adventure, a robber running from the law, or a dancer taking the stage for the first time?  What I’ve discovered as an adult is words are magic.  They have the ability to transport a reader anywhere they might desire to be.  The best part is reading doesn’t come with jetlag.

Within the pages of books, whether electronic or in paper, are the words that can spark our imaginations again.  Unfortunately, I let life get in the way of my love for story for a very long time…longer than I want to admit here.  I moved on to movies and TV to fill my needs for story.  They can.  There are movies and shows that are inspiring, but what we see is someone else’s vision.  We don’t get to visualize that tall, dark and handsome stranger.  Someone else tells us how he looks.  I think it’s fun to see the way readers envision my characters.  Their pick is usually different than mine, and that is a good thing.  It means that through my words the reader was able to conjure a character.  How fun is that?  It’s also amazingly humbling and rewarding as an author to know you inspired someone with words.
For me, writing is even more amazing than reading.  Being able to meet a character for the first time and discover their story is riveting.  As a writer, I get a slightly different view that the reader does.  I get to see a story unfold and discover the mystery.  In a way, I feel like Sherlock Holmes uncovering the ins and outs of the human mind.  The amazing part is that within the pages of a book, anything is possible.  We are only limited to the bounds of our imagination.  The best part of writing for me is I feel like a kid again exploring new worlds.  Through words I’ve found that creative spark that went missing all that time ago.
You might be wondering if I ever found that fairytale ending I dreamed about as a kid.  Maybe not in the traditional sense.  I still have to live in the real world.  I did find my tall, dark and handsome prince, but life by its very nature is hard and relationships are harder.  Even so, piece-by-piece I am capturing the all elusive happily-ever-after.
I’ve looked for happiness in many places, but I am finding it in the one place that I didn’t expect:  inside of me.  Nothing makes me happier than being true to myself, and writing has become my truest form of expression.  Some might quail at the thought of staring down the blank page with the ever present blinking cursor, but for me that little flashing line is a call to explore the unknown.  And the one thing I’m certain of when I start a book, whether reading or writing, is the possibilities are endless, and that, my friends, is magic.

Christie Rich

I grew up daydreaming about fairytales, and my love for discovering new worlds has never died. I am not one of those writers who always knew I would write. I thought that was what other people did until one day a few years ago, I took a challenge from a friend and typed my first words. My journey has been wonderful, and I cannot imagine a day where I would ever give up writing now. My love for reading is what fueled my imagination in the first place and still does. When I am not writing or reading, I am enjoying family time with my husband and two children. We live in a quiet community under the Wellsville mountains in Utah, and I am so thankful for the rich life I have been blessed with.

Review

Oh my! What can I say, another 5 star read, just like the first of the series. If this book sounds like something that is your cup of tea, I would recommend to start reading the series immediately!

These books make the whole reading thing so easy! I love these characters and I love the story and the mythology behind the plot, and the surprises the plot has. The story has  young adult characters with their young adult problems mixed with their mythic problems.. I don´t really know what to tell about the book. I just read it and loved it.

Sometimes when I´ve read a book I loved, I have a lot to say about it. Sometimes I don´t have much more to say then that I loved it. This time it´s the latter. Maybe I´ll think of something more later :)

About Kristen Day
Kristen Day is a southern belle at heart with a crazy streak that desperately tries to escape at every opportunity.  She loves all things nostalgic, rustic, and quirky.  She’s been told she sees the world through rose-colored glasses, but she prefers to think of them as kaleidoscope glasses - swirling and morphing reality into something she can digest (who hasn't pretended those pasty lima beans were really kiwi strawberry jelly beans?).

She is the author of the DAUGHTERS OF THE SEA trilogy, which includes FORSAKEN, AWAKEN (Oct 2012), and CHOSEN (Winter 2012).  She loves all books, but really enjoys writing young adult, paranormal romances.  She’s loved to write for as long as she can remember.  Her first published work was her poem RED in second grade (you guessed it - it was a poem about the color red - life altering, right?) that won her 5 gold stars and a spot in her elementary school's poetry book. That's when her addiction to the written word officially began.  She was the only kid in fifth grade that actually enjoyed diagramming sentences. Go ahead and laugh - its okay.

When she’s not writing she’s making jewelry, painting, feeding her addiction to sweet tea, watching the Discovery Channel, or going on random adventures in the mountains of North Carolina with her amazing husband. She was born in Boone, NC and graduated from Appalachian State University with a degree in Marketing in 2001.

And then all of a sudden Nick got up.  While my brain was determining where he was going and if I’d gone too far, my eyes studied his physique as it strolled away from me.  His t-shirt clung to the evident muscles of his upper back, hanging flawlessly in the hollow down to his waist.  I’d never noticed something like that.  To my eye’s dismay he hunched behind the counter.  I was fascinated and confused by the draw I felt to him and the alien emotions pulling inside my stomach.  Emotions I was certain I’d never processed before.
A few seconds later his eyes fastened on me.  “Garbage?”
“What?  Oh.”  I stood, laughing sheepishly.  “Yeah.  I don’t have one.  I mean, I need to get one.”  I placed my clumsy hands on my hips and then glanced behind me because I didn’t know where else to look.
Visually I followed him as he wadded the white paper in his hand, snatched his keys off the counter, and strolled toward me.  But because my eyes were nervously stiff I didn’t really see him.  I twisted Creed’s ring around my finger; then my hand scratched the back of my neck; and then my foot propped behind me on its tiptoe and I almost lost my balance.
Say something!  He’s leaving!
“You’re leaving already and I haven’t even finished my sandwich.”  I scrunched my nose at what came out.  “Not that I want you to stay or anything.  I mean, it’s your choice to stay or leave but—”
His nearness cut me off.  In the course of my bird-brained comments, he had been advancing toward me, finally stopping uncomfortably close to me.  His lips were curved in a wicked grin and I swallowed with a bashfulness I rarely felt.
To my utter shock, a hot finger lifted my chin and our faces came even closer.  Too close.
Breathe, Heather.
“Would you like that, if I stayed?”
My eyes dropped from his, but they only made it to his chest since he was holding my head in place.
“Actually, I have so much to do today,” I said, trying my best to sound bored.  But my voice held a nervous quiver that most likely made him smile more.
Though he dropped his hand from my face, he didn’t back away and his deep voice rumbled through my head again.  “Some of us attend class.”
My nose scrunched.  Had I missed class this morning?  Before I had time to pinpoint what day it was, he was gone.
